Sternlager (Star Camp) at Bergen-Belsen KZ/Gedenkstätte

Established in Jul 1943. Approximately 4.000 Jewish prisoners, of which the largest contingent were Dutch, were interned here and were expected to be exchanged. The prisoners had to wear the yellow Star of David on their clothes. Men and women were accomodated separately but families were permitted to meet during the day. Work was obligatory.

In November 1944 this camp was drastically reduced in size when parts were absorbed into the Frauenlager and Häftlingslager II.
